Drums Are For Parades.
Or so they say…we’re not sure that when the name was coined it was meant to be literal. In fact, truth be told, we don’t even know where the name came from. Because like nearly everything else about DAFP – the answers to any questions just seem to lead to more questions…
What we do know to be fact. There are three of them. Sometimes four. The fourth “member” isn’t a member, but another drummer. We know they were formed in Gent, Belgium sometime between 2006 and 2007. They recorded both their albums with one Niek Meul, himself from Gent music royalty. We know that somewhere deep in the anals of their history, one member was once once a member of Soulwax. We know this record is their second. And there the trail gets – well, blurry…
Shall we talk about the music? Or the live show. I’ll do the live show first – my introduction to it was above a sports Arena in Antwerp. I’d heard the sonic mayhem of their first album, and was as curious as anyone else to see it with my own two eyes. As the three of them shuffled onstage and plugged in, I was immediately transported back to seeing the Melvins circa 1998. There was a lineage that went beyond the imposing Buzz-like figure of Wim R. DAFP’s guitarist, occasional singer, and nominal “front man”. As they turned their backs on us, and laid into a track off their debut album, all hell broke loose around me.

» Maria Isn't A Virgin Anymore (Stoner)
MIAVA is a Belgian four piece instrumental band. MIAVA was formed in the fall of 2009. Due to boredom in other bands, MIAVA started jamming with no further plans. The first result was an instrumental rage of stoner-rock. MIAVA recorded their first EP in the spring of 2010 at the 195 studios in Breda (nl). The self titled EP contains 5 tracks and was released in direct management. The first EP is quite basic and impulsive.
After a lot of gigs they started writing for a new EP, this time MIAVA used a lot more influences in their music. The sound was evolving to a more instrumental post-metal/stoner mix. Clenched adrenaline and haunting riffs are a constant through all numbers and ensure a dose of extremely serious threat. Controlled euphoria goes into the layered song structures with regularity of the clock in nervous, almost claustrophobic dark passages. In January 2011 MIAVA started recording their 2nd EP at the CCR studios in Zulte (be). ‘The Fall of Public Man’ was released in August 2011 under the local lable ‘dice industries’. Later on ‘The fall of Public Man’ was released on vinyl by Music Mania Records (Ghent).
After the release of ‘The fall of public man’ it went fast for Maria isn’t a virgin anymore, a lot of cool reviews were written and they could count on a lot of media-attention. MIAVA played support for a lot of cool bands like: Channel Zero, Steak Number Eight, Karma To Burn, Maybeshewill, Priestess, Red Fang…
MIAVA is planning to release a full-length album in winter 2012…
» Supernaut (Stoner)
» Blister (Stoner)
Described as “an intersection of vintage rock ‘n’ roll feeling” with “grunge-era heaviness” the three and a half minute pounding of ‘Ataraxia’ is just what you’d expect from this sort of induction – driving riffs, well-placed chanting and plenty of attitude.
Having toured relentlessly around Belgium since their inception in late 2007 – including playing at the prestigious Botanique – Blister are also ready to leave their homeland for pastures new, and this raw, yet radio-friendly debut, is sure to reverberate throughout the rest of Europe.
